Clinical Coding Manager SSMC in Abu Dhabi, UAE is responsible for supervising, coordinating, auditing and monitoring the activities related to Clinical Coding. The job holder is also responsible for ensuring the implementation of the organization’s policies and procedures that are provided and approved based on regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Provides daily supervision of coding staff and is responsible for adherence of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines. Under general supervision of facility Revenue Cycle Director, this position develops and implements systems for the collection and analysis of one or more of the following: Coding, Quality Measures/Review, Edit Resolution, Denials Management and Auditing for the purposes of providing quality utilization review and financial, statistical to administration, medical staff, other hospital staff and external agencies. This is a Senior level full time job. And salary can range between 13000-25000 AED/month.

Responsibilities of Clinical Coding Manager

  • Facilitates daily activities and work processes in clinical coding and areas relating to timely coding in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Monitors HIS functions specific to Coding and report issues to the facility HIM-IUC representative for trouble shooting and resolution.
  • Produces productivity and statistical data and reporting on daily monthly and adhoc basis for management and key department/sections as per instruction from Facility Director of RCM
  • Informs the facility director of RCM, regarding problems related to the completion of incomplete charts, analyzing the routine discrepancies in the system and suggesting ways to solve those discrepancies
  • Ensures that the coding and analysis functions are performed on daily basis.
  • Ensures coding supports claim submissions and data management activities •    Ensures appropriate accountability and adherence to approved budgets
  • Prepares accurate monthly variance reports for the budgets.
  • Conducts frequent audits of coding staff for quality and productivity.
  • Produces productivity reports, DNFB reports, and statistical data on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and adhoc basis for management and key departments/sections.
  • Investigate and resolve problems, complaints, and incidents from internal and external customers
  • Ensure the process of monitoring coding data accuracy through regular internal and external coding audits.
  • Provides and maintain effective relationships with other department/sections, the clinical staff.
  • Ensures accurate coding and sequencing as specified by established clinical coding principles and guidelines.
  • Assists with the preparation of medical records for quality assurance and medical audit purposes by providing coding data.
  • Assists in the preparation, evaluation and completion of departmental goals and objectives to provide continuous improvement in the organization.

  • Selects trains and manages the orientation of new employees to provide for a competent staff.
  • Oversees employee qualitative and quantitative work standards and staffing schedules in order to plan for an organized and cost-efficient provision of services, use of human resources, and a mechanism to evaluate employee competency.
  • Manages staffing functions, including outsource contracts, to ensure smooth flow of operations;
  • Identifies and resolves edits that contribute to clean claim submission. Implements best practices for mitigating edits up front.
  • Investigates, plans and design systems for new health information technology for the creation, maintenance and transmission of patient data in order to maximize efficient handling of patient records within the facility or other network groups.
  • Consults with Head of the Department and other senior staff appropriately to assist in correcting problem areas and improving services.
  • Assists and identifying insufficient or ambiguous documentation issues and reporting to the Facility Director of RCM or physician whenever required.
  • Oversees and makes recommendations to the Facility Director of RCM regarding the staff, equipment, and supply needs.
  • Prepares and set Key Performance Indicators for direct reports, conduct performance appraisals and drive motivation levels of direct reports.
  • Develops and maintains positive and constructive work relationships with departmental and facility staff.
  • Ensures motivation and supervision of staff daily to ensure that  deadlines are met and workload monitored
  • Updates coding section with regard to all changes in regulatory requirements
  • Ensures that codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per government and insurance regulation.
  • Implements strategic procedures and choosing strategies and evaluation methods that provide correct results.

Requirements for Role of Clinical Coding Manager

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or Diploma with 3 years of additional experience .
  • Master degree or equivalent in Health Information Management.(Desirable)
  • 4 – 6 years of experience as a Coder for inpatient and or ambulatory care service.
  • Previous coding experience as a supervisor in a large Healthcare facility with knowledge of DRGs and billing, statistics.
