The Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Abu Dhabi Ports will be responsible for ensuring the operations of Ports International Operating Company (POIC)’s International Ports run efficiently and effectively. The COO will work in collaboration with the International operations team and the local Ports’ teams, in reviewing and drafting the necessary Standard Operating Procedures, cargo handling methodology and management systems, identifying and driving operational improvement initiatives. This is a senior level full time role. The salary for this role ranges from 50000 AED to 90000 AED, which may be slightly negotiatable during the interview

Duties of Chief Operations Officer

  • Review, draft and ensure implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and Operational Standards for cargo handling and other Port Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with project agreements, health & safety, security, and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and analyze operational performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee the International Ports’ teams operations management, including manpower scheduling, vessel scheduling, cargo handling, equipment handling and maintenance and terminal management.
  • Review and help international Ports with large OPEX and CAPEX expenses, within annual budget targets.
  • Optimize equipment utilization and maintenance to maximize operational efficiency, identifying opportunities to share equipment and maintenance parts across international Ports in the Portfolio if possible.
  • Ensure maintaining solid excellence culture by endorsing measures cascaded by Corporate.
  • Create and foster an organization culture that encourages innovation, enhances employee motivation, and support initiatives for implementation of Change Management to continuously improve division’s operations and services.
  • Oversee benchmarking with key International Port Operators and ensure that PIOC processes are agile and resilient to market dynamics and uncertainties.

What You’ll Do More?

  • In charge of leading the strategy for company wide leadership and management of the HSE policies, procedures and operational guidance that will enable a culture of workforce behaviors directed towards safety, health, incident and accident prevention, regulatory compliance, environmental management, and performance outcomes that engage the connection of the workforce to the Company and its culture.
  • Provide expertise and leadership that will engage the Operational leaders in driving the culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Direct all local HSE Leads and influences colleagues to drive prioritization of regulatory compliance, continuous performance improvement.
  • Develops new and innovative programs to motivate the workforce to participate and engage in HSE.
  • Ensures HSE strategies/programs are implemented at a global level.
  • Responsible for ensuring HSE culture engagement efforts are implemented and well-aligned with the business strategies across the terminals.
  • Actively participate in Review, & enhancement of organization structure for PIOC throughout its development in order to best utilize human capital while proactively incorporating sustainability into the on-going work practices to meet the business objectives.
  • Manage the development of knowledge, competencies and innovative spirit in PIOC to support the establishment Development Plans, Succession Planning and Talent pipeline within the Department to continuously develop employees with emphasis on UAE Nationals to meet Emiratization targets.

Eligibility Requirements for Role of Chief Operations Officer

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 16 years experience in International Ports Operations oversight, preferably in multi-country setup (Regional COO or Group COO)
  • Proven experience as Chief Operating Office or relevant role.

Skills Desired

  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics.
  • Working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office.
  • Proven track record in leading a large organization and skills to interconnect with teams from diverse operational and cultural background.
  • Ability to review, draft and ensure implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and Operational Standards for cargo handling.
  • Ability to understand, create and present operational KPIs and operational management reports, to support oversight and decision-making at PIOC level.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team, delegate tasks effectively and make decisions that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Full understanding of the business strategies in order to conceptualize, recommend and implement HSE business processes.
