Dubai Culture is presently hiring for the job role of Chief Conservator of Antiquities in Dubai. This is a full time job. The salary ranges from 15000 AED to 30000 AED that is slightly negotiatable during the interview.

Responsibilities of Chief Conservator of Antiquities

  • Participate in the department’s annual budget preparation process and ensure the provision of all necessary support, including reports or data required for the department director.
  • Developing the work systems and restoration programs used throughout the Dubai government and submitting development recommendations or observations to the direct official.
  • Conducting benchmarking studies on various topics and programs for the restoration of local, regional and global monuments to determine mechanisms for development and improvement of policies and operations.
  • Reviewing, developing and providing technical support in the laws, regulations, legislation and antiquities restoration programs that will be applied and providing periodic reports to the department director.
  • Participate as a member of the work team and committees, such as the Dubai Government’s Antiquities Evaluation Team, to provide opinions and technical input based on the instructions of the Director of the Restoration Department.
  • Providing technical and training support to employees in implementing antiquities restoration programs.
  • Contribute to the development, planning and implementation of preventive conservation projects and activities as agreed upon with the Director of the Monuments Conservation Division.
  • Make recommendations to improve policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Planning and scheduling preservation assessment procedures in the Antiquities Department of the Culture Authority and its affiliated archaeological sites in order to identify and report in a timely manner any potential risk to the preservation of antiquities and prevent long-term deterioration.

  • Study emergency plans, develop guidelines and standards for the preventive preservation of antiquities in coordination with antiquities curators.
  • Ensuring that policies are clearly formulated to employees at antiquities.
  • Archaeological sources, light sources, humidity, maintenance, etc.
  • Conduct visits to monitor compliance with preventive conservation measures to  improve the preservation of antiquities.
  • Conduct research on best preventative conservation procedures.
  • Provide recommendations for improvement across the Culture Authority’s monuments and archaeological sites as appropriate.
  • Providing training to management staff, and guiding them on implementing preventive conservation guidelines for handling, storing artifacts.
  • Evaluate requests to transport artifacts to determine their suitability for travel, document their condition.
  • Inform the Registrar and other relevant staff of any special considerations for packing and shipping.
  • Perform other job-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements of Chief Conservator of Antiquities

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in preservation and restoration, engineering, historical antiquities, or its equivalent from an accredited university.
  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience.
