Duties of Charge Nurse ICU

  • Is aware of the complication associated with the injuries sustained by the patient.
  • Coordinates educational activities and uses appropriate resources to develop and implement an individualized teaching and discharge plan with patients and their families.
  • Performs hands-on nursing care by utilizing the nursing process to achieve quality outcomes for patients.
  • Provides direction and supervision of all nursing and ancillary staff, demonstrates professional judgment, uses problem solving techniques, time-management principles and delegates appropriately.
  • Coordinates nursing care activities in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional rehabilitation team to facilitate achievement of overall wings specific and individualized patient’s goals.
  • Coordinates a holistic approach to meeting patient’s medical, vocational, educational, and environmental needs.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills to develop a rapport with patients, their families, the interprofessional team members to ensure the fulfillment of requirements for legal documentation and reimbursement.
  • Acts as a resource and a role model for all nursing staff and ancillary staff and participates in activities such as nursing committee and professional organizations that promote the improvement of nursing care and the advancement of professional rehabilitation nursing.
  • Encourages others to participate on committees, and/or professional organizations.
  • Actively engages in legislative initiatives affecting the practice of rehabilitation nursing or the patients in their care.
  • Applies nursing research to clinical practice and participates in nursing research studies.
  • Responsible for monitoring direct and indirect patient care to achieve optimum patient outcome.
  • Provides high quality patient care within the regulatory bodies, SRH’s and the wings Scope of Services, policies and procedures.
  • Assumes accountability and responsibility for own practice. Does not carry out tasks beyond love of competence.
  • Designs and implements treatment strategies that are based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care.

What you’ll do as Charge Nurse ICU

  • Ensure all staff are performing individualized and age-specific nursing assessment of their assigned patients.
  • Work with the Interprofessional team to develop individualized patient’s rehabilitation goals (long & short term).
  • Formulate individualized care plans and provides and coordinates comprehensive nursing care to a wide spectrum of patients seen in SRH.
  • Assess the physical, physiological, sociocultural, and spiritual dimensions of clients and their families, as well as their educational and discharge needs in order to formulate nursing diagnoses.
  • Plan nursing care while acknowledging that rehabilitation nursing is practices within a dynamic, therapeutic, and supportive relationship that is constantly changing, as nursing and patients influence one another.
  • Implement a plan of care by providing nursing care and education directly or through all staff, as needed, to maintain and restore function and prevent complications and further loss.
  • Evaluate the nursing care that is being provided and modifies the plan, as needed, to achieve measurable goals and objectives.
  • Providing holistic, comprehensive, and compassionate end-of-life care for patients with life-limiting conditions within SRH.

Education & Experience

Following are the requirements for the role of Charge Nurse ICU at SRH:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • 4-5 years of experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a leadership role.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Has knowledge of the assessments carried out on patients by other disciplines.
  • Support the nursing staff in understanding these assessments.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
