Job Description

Audiologist at NMC Royal Hospital will determines type and degree of hearing impairment and implements habilitation and rehabilitation services for patient: Administers and interprets variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, to determine type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Plans and implements prevention, habilitation, or rehabilitation services, including hearing aid selection, fitting and programming of hearing aid, ear mould impression taking, trouble shooting of hearing aid and orientation, counseling, and auditory training. Refers patient to physician or surgeon if medical treatment is determined necessary. This is an Intermediate level full time job. And salary can range between 10000-20000 AED/month.

Responsibilities of Audiologist

  • Provide direct care and perform duties in critical care, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of critical care nursing standards.
  • Administer hearing tests and exams to assess the type and degree of impairment using specialized instruments and electronic equipment, including:
  • Pure tone audiometry
  • Speech audiometry
  • Immittance measurement
  • Otoacoustic emission evaluation
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
  • Behavioral Observation Audiometry (BOA)
  • Play audiometry
  • Newborn hearing screening
  • Counsel and instruct clients on techniques to improve hearing or speech, including sign language or lip-reading.
  • Select and prescribe ear protection devices, such as earplugs and earmuffs.
  • Evaluate hearing disorders to determine diagnoses and appropriate treatment courses.
  • Maintain client records throughout the care process, from initial evaluation to discharge.
  • Plan and conduct treatment programs for clients’ hearing or speech issues, consulting with other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Recommend assistive devices based on clients’ needs and types of impairments.
  • Refer clients to additional medical or educational services when required.
  • Advise educators and healthcare staff on hearing and speech-related topics.
  • Conduct or direct research on hearing or speech topics, sharing findings to aid in developing new procedures, technology, or treatments.
  • Develop and supervise hearing screening programs.
  • Fit and tune cochlear implants, providing rehabilitation to assist clients in adjusting to amplified listening.
  • Instruct clients, parents, teachers, or employers on avoiding behaviors that may cause miscommunication.
  • Participate in conferences and training to stay updated on new treatment methods or technologies for hearing or speech disorders.
  • Measure noise levels in various environments and conduct hearing protection programs for industries, schools, and communities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess and rehabilitate recipients of hearing implants.

What you will do more

  • Stay informed about new equipment, operational procedures, and maintenance.
  • Fit and dispense hearing aids and assistive listening devices, such as FM systems.
  • Conduct otoscopic evaluations.
  • Comply with all Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, collaborating with hospital management.
  • Follow documented OSH procedures and specific responsibilities.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation protocols to ensure safety.
  • Report OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues, assisting in risk assessment and incident reporting.
  • Adhere to waste management procedures and policies.
  • Attend applicable OSH and infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness sessions.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety system protocols.

Requirements for Role of Audiologist

  • Graduate with a Master’s in Speech Language & Hearing or Audiology.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Currently licensed in the country of origin and holds a HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
