Job Description
GEMS Dubai American Academy is looking for an experienced Athletic & Activities Program Director to join the team and to provide leadership and be a role model for both faculty and students in emphasizing the importance of lifelong health skills. The Program Director will make every attempt to provide opportunities for each student that will foster skills, a sense of worth and competence, knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport and the arts, and most importantly, the principles of fair play, collaboration, and resilience. Supervises coaches, activity sponsors, and support services personnel as assigned and parent volunteers during events. Interfaces with Head of School, Executive Office, Principals, Assistant Principals, Manager School Operations, faculty, staff, coaches, regional athletic directors, students and parents.
Duties of Athletic & Activities Program Director

- Ensure that GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- To model and encourage DAA’s Culture of Kindness and to perpetuate the school’s mission and values.
- To commit time and leadership for the successful implementation of the DAA’s School Strategic Plan.
- To organize, schedule and administer a diverse athletic and activities program for the purpose of promoting wellness and nurturing life long skills.
- To promote participation, sportsmanship and skill acquisition over winning.
- To recommend assignments, arrange contracts and monitor the quality of athletic coaches and advisors for various activities who are best qualified to field teams that are skilled, dedicated, disciplined and motivated. This will be accomplished in conjunction with the Principals.
- To arrange for officials, team physician/nurse and security as required.
- To assume general responsibility for proper supervision of games and activities on campus.
- To arrange transportation for athletic contests and activity participants.
- To arrange all details for visiting teams and coaches including lodging, meals, towels, gymnasium services and field assistance as appropriate.
- To verify each participant’s eligibility by assuring the physical requirements in coordination with the nurse and the academic requirements in coordination with the counselor.
- To prepare and administer the athletic program budget, supplies and equipment requisitions.
- To create, regularly update, communicate and uphold policies and procedures in handbooks for coaches/advisors and participants.
What Will You Do More
- To investigate, follow up and suggest action on disciplinary infractions for students who are in violation of rules during the season, during tournament play or during events.
- To coordinate with the DSL regarding safeguarding matters that arise.
- To report to the Superintendent incidents or events of which the line manager should be aware.
- To prepare and maintain an activities/facilities calendar.
- To keep records of participation, performance and the results of all events and maintain a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award.
- To plan and supervise an annual recognition program for activity participants.
- To ensure facilities are safe and well maintained by supervising the maintenance schedule for the facilities and recommend either new or capital replacement items for budget consideration.
- To foster good School community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the Athletic programs.
- To represent DAA at MESAC and other conference meetings to facilitate communication between staff, students, administration, parents and other school representatives.
- To organize all MESAC and other “home” and “away” events.
- To assist in organizing practice games, scrimmages, events and tournaments with local schools.
- To coordinate use of program facilities with ESM or other external organizations .
- To be a willing and active participant in committee work as well as a contributing member of the Administrative Team.
- To perform other activities as might be required for the general welfare of the School and/or as requested by the Principals, Executive Office, or the Superintendent/CEO.
Job Requirements of Athletic & Activities Program Director
- Current North American teacher and administration certification.
- Master’s Degree (School Administration, Leadership, and/or Curriculum).
- Minimum 3 year experience in similar role.
- Record of highly successful teaching experience in the particular division.
- Record of effective leadership and management experience.
- Experience with American curriculum, standards, and pedagogy.
