Commercial Bank of International is presently recruiting suitably qualified and skilled candidate for the role of Associate Vice President Business Controls & Support. The role holder is responsible to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of business controls and support systems through comprehensive auditing practices within a commercial banking environment.

Responsibilities of Associate Vice President Business Controls & Support

  • Ensures that audit engagements are performed in a systematic, disciplined approach and with proficiency and due professional care.
  • Ensures an effective on going monitoring to identify Counter party, Market, Liquidity & Operational risk issues on a pro active basis and assigns appropriate risk rating & suggests corrective steps.
  • Ensures that Operations auditors possess the knowledge, skills, and other competencies needed to perform their individual responsibilities, including sufficient knowledge to identify the indicators of significant control weaknesses in the governance, risk management and internal control processes.
  • Ensures adequacy and effectiveness of internal control, risk management and governance processes in relation to Operations, Support & Control Functions and Retail.
  • Alerts the Head of Internal Audit to the significant risks that might affect achievement of organizational objectives or portfolio quality.
  • Reviews the portfolio quality of the Treasury & Investments, and reviews the adequacy of Finance & Risk management processes of the Bank.
  • Keeps the Head of Internal Audit abreast of trends in portfolio quality and risk profile.
  • Assists the Head of Internal Audit in preparing a comprehensive Operations, Support & Control Functions and Retail Audit Plan for the Department, prioritizing audit assignments based on risk assessment, and scheduling of follow up activities, in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Co-ordinates with the Head of Internal Audit in preparing staffing plans and financial budgets of the Operations, Support & Control Functions and Retail Audit section, including the number of auditors and the knowledge, skills, and disciplines required to achieve the approved plan.
  • Directs the planning of individual Operations, Support & Control Functions and Retail audit assignments to ensure that professional standards are maintained.
  • Counsels and guides team members to ensure that the approved audit objectives are met, and adequate coverage is achieved.

What You’ll Do More?

  • Supervises the performance of audit work with a planned approach and within agreed time frames.
  • Establishes standards of performance and by review, determines that performance meets such standards.
  • Reviews, edits and approves the draft report. Attends opening and closing conferences.
  • Maintains quality in carrying out audit assignments to ensure performance of all aspects of the review, at a high level of efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluates the adequacy of the Operations, Support & Control Functions and Retail processes including portfolio planning, risk approval process, risk recognition, and other related controls.
  • Evaluates the organizational set up, staffing, management and reporting lines of the Operations, Support & Control and Retail Divisions.
  • Reviews the policies of the Bank for appropriateness.
  • Ensures compliance with the Bank’s policies and procedures, Central Bank instructions and other pertinent laws and regulations.
  • Maintains an up to date awareness and ensures that subordinates keep abreast of the latest techniques and professional audit standards.
  • Establishes and monitors accomplishment of objectives directed toward increasing the Internal Audit Department’s ability to provide value add services to the bank’s management.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities consistent with the role as assigned by management.

Requirements of Associate Vice President Business Controls & Support

  • Graduate in a business-related field, preferably Finance & Accounting or Economics.
  • Minimum 10 years experience either in Internal Audit including 5 years in senior position.
  • Experience in risk analytics, risk models, and risk management techniques.

Skills and Knowledge Desired

  • Knowledge of Basel II & III guidelines.
  • Knowledge of COSO’s Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of auditing practices particularly within Treasury, Investments, Finance & Risk areas.
  • Knowledge of IFRS.
  • Proficiency in the use of data analysis/audit tools such as ACL and Excel.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical/technical skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication (Audit Report writing), excellent presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Leadership, Supervision and managerial skills.
