Assistant Professor Computer Science University of Wollongong Dubai

The School of Computer Science, at University of Wollongong in Dubai, seeks to appoint for the Autumn 2024 semester a dynamic and talented Assistant Professor Computer Science with expertise in Big Data Management, Big Data Mining Techniques and Implementation, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Modern Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning models, generative AI and general adversarial networks (GANs), Natural language processing, Computer Vision. It is a full time position that requires the holder to contribute to the School’s teaching, research and governance activities.

About Candidate

• The applicant is expected to have teaching experience in AI and Big Data related topics including: Big Data Management, Big Data Mining Techniques and Implementation, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Modern Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning models, generative AI and general adversarial networks (GANs), Natural language processing, Computer Vision, as well as core computer science subjects such as programming, database management, web technologies, and networking at a recognized higher education institution, along with a record of scholarly research and high quality publications in the relevant field.
• Industry experience or evidence of industry academic collaborations would also be beneficial.
• The post holder will also supervise final year graduation projects, MSc projects and PhD Thesis.
• He/ She will remain engaged in scholarly and research activities within the thriving engineering team to produce high impact research and deliver research informed undergraduate and Master’s level teaching.
• The applicant is expected to have an experience of involvement in collaborative research with external organizations, and have strong track record for dissemination of knowledge through recent publications in high impact international journals and international conferences.
• As a Faculty member, have an excellent research track record and will demonstrate research leadership from the outset.
• Expected to raise the profile of the Faculty through external networking and producing high impact, high profile publications.
• In addition, you will be expected to seek to gain your own research funding to develop/expand your role within university.

Job Requirements of Assistant Professor Computer Science

• PhD. in Computer Science/AI and Big Data (or related discipline) from a recognized international academic institution.
• 2 year teaching experience at an internationally recognized institution in area related to Computer Science, AI, Data Analytics.
• Industry experience related to AI and Machine Learning projects is a plus.
• Documented experience in the application of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data Analysis to modern information systems problems.
• Experience with Hadoop, HBase, Spark and other Big data management technologies.
• Experience with AI and Machine learning models, and related libraries and platforms (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, caffe, PyTorch, Theano, OpenCV, OpenAI, Gemini).

Skills & Knowledge Desired of Assistant Professor Computer Science

• Ability to teach and conduct research about latest AI and Big Data Analysis techniques and strategies as well as the project skills to apply this knowledge in the real world.
• Ability to research about latest computer science topics to design, implement and test AI based solutions for solving complex problems.
• Working knowledge of Relational and Cloud databases.
• Working knowledge of techniques and tools for: Big Data Management, Big Data Mining Techniques and Implementation, Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Modern Artificial Intelligence, Computer vision and applications, Data Mining, Database performance tuning, GANs, Generative AI, and Natural language processing.
• An active researcher in the field (or related field) with publications in recognized international journals.
• Fluency in the English language (both spoken and written).
• Excellent communication skills.
