The Aquila School is looking for an Assistant Head Teacher (Secondary Inclusion) to join their growing school in August 2024. You must be suitably qualified and experienced for this role (experience as a SENCO and hold, or be prepared to work towards UK Qualified Teacher Status). Hold relevant specialist qualifications, such as NASENCO, PGCE Inclusion, CPT3A etc. Understand and believe in their school vision which is to be a happy community school with amazing learning at its heart where pupils are empowered to make choices, engage in meaningful learning experiences and make exceptional progress.

Responsibilities of Assistant Head Teacher

  • To promote their school to the local community to increase pupil numbers and reach their pupil numbers target.
  • To be accountable for ensuring that children are inspired, motivated and equipped to make as much progress with their learning as possible through ‘amazing learning.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues and families.
  • To have a positive impact on the work of the school.
  • To ensure children are safe and well cared for at all times.
  • To undertake the role and duties as required as the named Secondary SENCO.
  • To ensure effective communication and direct the work of others such as LSAs & ELL Tutors.
  • Professional development of all staff including coaching and delivering CPD.
  • As Assistant Head Teacher for Inclusion ensure teaching and learning is of the highest standards and personalized to specifically meet individual needs of all children across the phase.
  • Ensure the school maintains a positive, respectful and inclusive ethos.

Job Requirements of Assistant Head Teacher 

  • Hold relevant specialist qualifications, such as NASENCO, PGCE Inclusion, CPT3A etc.
  • Minimum 2 year experience in similar role.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • To be a credible leader with a range of secondary teaching and leadership experience.
  • To be able to lead learning across the secondary for so that lessons are engaging and relevant, enabling every child (and especially identified ‘groups’ of pupils) to make as much progress as possible.
  • To be able to develop positive working relationships with all members of your team and the school community.
  • To be able to use initiative, be flexible, fun, proactive and positive.
  • Excellent levels of written and spoken English (bilingual English Arabic desirable).
  • Unceasingly optimistic and a ‘can do’ attitude – calm, kind and professional with all members of the school community.
  • Can meet deadlines by effective planning and time management.
  • Experience of working in an 11 to 18 school environment.
  • A proven track record of securing excellent outcomes for groups of pupils.

Work Schedule

  • Hours of work 7.25am 4.15pm Monday to Thursday and 7.25am 12pm Friday plus occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Holidays as per the school KHDA approved calendar.
