Job Description

NAS Abu Dhabi is seeking to appoint an energetic, highly motivated, and passionate Assistant Head Teacher of  EYFS & Lower Primary.  Applicants should be team players who bring a genuine love of teaching and learning and a commitment to pupil wellbeing and wider school life. Applicants need to be qualified teachers with QTS and have experience of working with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Candidates should be committed to ongoing school improvement and feel comfortable in a climate of change and innovative development. Responsibilities of Assistant Head Teacher

  • To deliver high quality Early Years teaching and learning promoting excellence and upholding the School’s Aims and Mission.
  • The Early Years practice needs to inform the school’s strategic planning through data analysis, curriculum and staff review and regulatory requirements, and by identifying opportunities to improve the Early Years curriculum and offer within the school.
  • To develop key relationships with pupils, staff and parents and the Admissions and Marketing team to drive pupil recruitment.
  • Involvement in morning and afternoon activities including promoting the outdoor learning environment.
  • To write, monitor and update all EYFS policies.
  • Lead on teaching and learning initiatives in the EYFS & Lower Primary Department to deliver a curriculum that is rich, balanced, creative, and innovative, and which meets the needs of all children.
  • Keep abreast of developments in educational thinking and research and update curriculum and teaching in line with developments.
  • Organise and manage all reports to parents including digital portfolios e.g. Seesaw and Early Years Parents’ Meetings.
  • Maintain a high level of behaviour among children, whilst promoting safety and compliance with school rules and guidelines.
  • Create a departmental handbook; plan and structure exciting and imaginative schemes of work to ensure that pupils are appropriately challenged, make strong progress, and are inspired by their learning.
  • Liaise with the Head of Inclusion to ensure that pupils of all abilities receive the most appropriate support or extension, ensuring that intervention strategies are in place and monitored.

What Will You Do More

  • Chair regular EYFS & Lower Primary department meetings, develop targets within the department and work towards their achievement.
  • Enrich opportunities for pupils by organising regular workshops, visiting speakers and educational trips.
  • To promote and publicise, both internally and externally, the work and achievements of the children through the NAS Abu Dhabi Comms Team.
  • Lead the department in the development of IT based learning.
  • To be responsible for the EYFS & Lower Primary Department budget, including planning, recording and reviewing expenditure as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards in planning and assessment and strive to raise standards of attainment and achievement, ensuring an appropriately differentiated curriculum is delivered.
  • To ensure there is effective data analysis to inform pupil progress, frequent target setting and tracking of pupil performance according to these targets.
  • To lead the EYFS team from Nursery through to Reception, to ensure cohesion and collaboration between the staff.
  • To ensure there is a smooth transition between the phases through effective communication with parents and staff. In particular the transition from FS2 to Year 1.

As A Member of The Leadership Team:

  • Lead by example both in a teaching capacity and through supporting the school’s activities, performances and events.
  • Promote the vision and aims of the school.
  • Raise aspirations in standards of teaching and learning.
  • Ensure the effective strategic direction, leadership, and management of all aspects of EYFS & Lower Primary school organisation.
  • Attend all Leadership meetings and share minute taking.
  • In writing and reviewing school policies meet all statutory guidelines.
  • Ensure the School is ready to meet and exceed all requirements regarding inspections.
  • Work as a team, contributing ideas and innovations.

General Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and enforce school rules and to work in co operation with colleagues to promote the high standards of behaviour and concern for others.
  • Attend INSET sessions and such other meetings as may be necessary for the discharge of teaching, pastoral, or other duties.
  • Cover for absent colleagues when necessary.
  • Participate in the school’s assessment, record keeping, and reporting system.
  • Teach lessons in accordance with the school’s curriculum including all necessary preparation, marking, record keeping and reporting.

Job Requirements of Assistant Head Teacher

  • Hold relevant specialist qualifications, such as NASENCO, PGCE Inclusion, CPT3A etc.
  • Minimum 2 year experience in similar role.
