About the Role
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Oral Rhetoric at American University in Dubai will have primary teaching responsibilities in Public Speaking within the School of Arts and Sciences. Furthermore, successful candidates are expected to maintain an active research agenda, assist in curriculum development, and engage in service to the department, school, and community. Moreover, the position requires teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level with a focus on communication studies and rhetoric.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate courses in Public Speaking, communication studies, and oral rhetoric
- Develop and update course curricula, syllabi, and assessment materials aligned with program learning outcomes
- Maintain an active research agenda and publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals
- Coordinate and participate in department meetings, committees, and academic governance activities
- Support student academic advising and mentorship within the department
- Contribute to program assessment, accreditation, and continuous improvement processes
- Develop partnerships with industry and community organizations for experiential learning opportunities
- Promote innovation in teaching and incorporate technology-enhanced learning methods
- Lead or support extracurricular activities related to forensics, debate, or performing arts
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Communication, Speech, Rhetoric, or a closely related field from a Western accredited institution
- Demonstrated experience teaching Public Speaking to diverse student populations
- Related experience in forensics, performing arts, media, or professional memberships
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Evidence of teaching excellence or significant potential for teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level
- Active research agenda with publications commensurate with rank
