Looking for Professor of Interior Design jobs in Dubai? American University in Dubai (AUD) invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Interior Design to begin teaching in Fall 2026. Additionally, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the next generation of interior designers in one of the world’s most dynamic design markets.
About the Role
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Interior Design at American University in Dubai will teach undergraduate courses in interior design within the School of Architecture, Art and Design. Furthermore, the successful candidate will lead design studios, supervise student projects, and contribute to curriculum development and program accreditation. Moreover, the professor will maintain an active creative practice or research agenda and mentor students in developing professional portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver undergraduate courses in interior design studios, design theory, materials, and spatial planning
- Develop and update course curricula, studio briefs, and assessment criteria aligned with program outcomes
- Maintain an active research agenda or creative practice with scholarly or exhibited output
- Supervise student design projects, thesis work, and professional portfolio development
- Coordinate and participate in department meetings, accreditation reviews, and governance activities
- Contribute to program assessment and continuous improvement initiatives
- Develop partnerships with interior design firms, hospitality brands, and industry professionals in the UAE
- Promote sustainable and innovative design practices in interior design education
- Lead or support student exhibitions, design competitions, and community engagement projects
Requirements
- Ph.D. or terminal degree (MFA) in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience teaching interior design courses at the university level
- Active creative practice or research portfolio with publications or exhibited work
- Proficiency in design software including AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max, and Revit
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Professional experience in interior design practice is preferred
