Job Description

GEMS Founders School in Masdar City is hiring an Art Teacher for August 2025. This full -time role is located in Abu Dhabi and focuses on teaching art for secondary level students. It is beneficial for someone who likes creative thinking, understands how to bring the structure into visual expression, and it can connect with students through practical functions and ideas. Art Teacher

Responsibilities

  • Teach secondary school students using a mix of hands-on and theory-based lessons
  • Create a space where students can explore different forms of visual art
  • Help students build confidence in drawing, painting, and other artistic methods
  • Plan lessons that follow curriculum requirements but still feel fresh
  • Guide students on how to use materials safely and responsibly
  • Prepare displays or exhibitions of student work within the school
  • Work with other teachers to organize events or activities involving art
  • Use feedback and assessment tools to track student progress
  • Keep records of lessons, assessments, and student growth
  • Encourage participation in co-curricular or after-school programs
  • Attend staff meetings and help out with school-wide initiatives
  • Stay informed about trends in education and visual arts
  • Offer support to students who may be struggling or need extra guidance
  • Communicate clearly with parents or guardians when needed
  • Respect school policies, especially related to student well-being and safety

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Degree in Art or a closely related subject.
  • Teaching certification such as PGCE or BEd focused on Art.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching at secondary level preferred
  • British curriculum experience is helpful but not required

Skills

  • Comfortable leading a classroom with students of mixed ability
  • Able to break down complex ideas into manageable lessons
  • Strong organizational habits
  • Good with visual tools and basic digital art applications
  • Clear communicator — written and verbal
  • Willing to adapt teaching style to fit student needs

Knowledge

  • Familiarity with British secondary curriculum in visual arts
  • Aware of practical classroom safety standards
  • Understands how to evaluate student work fairly
  • Exposure to cross-cultural and historical art content
  • Knowledge of techniques in painting, sketching, and mixed media
  • Can support students preparing portfolios or external assessments
