Job Description

Application Support Specialist at Sorbonne University is responsible to develop, improve and manage the learning management systems and reporting capabilities as required for the university. The role will provide support for all online learning management system instructional initiatives to improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology rich teaching, and advance curricular innovation.

Duties of Application Support Specialist

  • Manage and maintain the enterprise learning management system (LMS) platform ensuring performance, security and availability of system and data.
  • Manage the day to day operations and maintenance of LMS by collaborating with Business Partners, Project Managers, and Instructional Designers.
  • Experienced in managing user accounts, course creation, and system customization.
  • Lead the effective implementation and ongoing maintenance of the LMS platform.
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles and adult learning theories.
  • Manage the integrations between all IT systems support tools, content, and technologies, roles, users, security, internal system notifications and other technology user accounts.
  • Work with IT teams and business users to improve the data accuracy.
  • Manage the testing and evaluation of new features and tools that integrate with the systems by facilitating and managing vendor vetting and training.
  • Provide training to the users in the systems as well as other professional development sessions.
  • Analyze current processes and business requirements to make recommendations for improvements, as well as new features, integrations, and applications.
  • Liaise between IT teams, vendors and other SUAD project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with IT management on project planning and reporting.
  • Perform other related duties or assignments as directed by the Line Manager.
  • Ensure project planning and documentations.
  • Produce regular reporting on progress for management.

Job Requirements of Application Support Specialist

  • Bachelor of Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent.
  • A master’s degree in a related field.
  • Certificates in related technology.
  • Minimum 5 years of learning management system (Blackboard or others).
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience in higher education institutions.
  • Experience in Power BI reporting developments is a plus.
  • Experience in higher education technology.
  • Experience in Systems Architecture and Integration using REST APIs.
  • Information Security knowledge and experience, including understanding of information security principals, policies, and standards.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • Proficient in administering and configuring popular LMS platforms such as Moodle, Canvas, and Blackboard.
  • Certification in the related fields is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Available to work after hours and/or weekends and on call, as specified by supervisor.
  • High level of proficiency in System Development Life Cycle.
  • Knowledge of cloud based applications and architecture.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload to deliver high quality work products on time with minimal direction.
  • Continuous learning, creative thinking/innovation, multi tasking, analysis/assessment, problem solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and non technical users.
  • Scripting languages & Development tools.
