Job Description

The Specialist Neonatology at NMC Food Lands Building will be responsible for attending patients in the age group from birth to the 28th day of life or more if necessary including cases of all degrees of complexity, according to approved standards of medical practice. Work is performed to meet established medical, ethical and statutory regulations. HOD-Neonatology is regularly briefed about the unusual problems encountered and the action taken.

Responsibilities of Specialist Neonatology

  • Performs professional duties of a neonatologist.
  • Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients.
  • Conducts daily rounds to patients in the hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Nursery.
  • Performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of neonatology.
  • Orders laboratory, radiological examinations, determines diagnosis, prescribes medications, advice nursing and dietary care as necessary and applies such preventive measures as required.
  • Provides in-patient care to the newborn and attends difficult delivery or cesarean section deliveries.
  • Offers consultation/referral services to the in-patient services in his area of expertise.
  • Works with patients throughout the entire process starting from consultation to treatment plan.
  • Serves as an expert in neonatology providing consultative services to other Medical Services.
  • Provides on-call emergency coverage for neonatal emergencies as per duty roster Administrative activities.
  • Attends committee meetings as assigned by the Head of Department (HOD).
  • Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
  • Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy.
  • Involved in development of International level guidelines to standardize and improve quality of service provided.
  • Follows standard policies and procedures as required by DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, JCI, ISO, OSHMS and other regulatory bodies.
  • Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians’ conference or other committees as requested.
  • Participate in improvement initiates within the department.
  • Handle complaints in an amicable manner when necessary.
  • Foster interdepartmental liaison in order to ensure maintenance of established level of Service Agreements.
  • Aware of hospital fire policy and emergency procedures.

Other Duties as Specialist Neonatology

  • Participate in a quality assurance program for the obstetrics and gynecology services and help develop and monitor indicators.
  • Assist the senior staff in developing best practice guidelines protocols.
  • Documents all care provided and education/information given to patients within their medical health record, as per professional and practice standards / protocols OSHMS activities.
  • Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements.
  • Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports.
  • Comply with Waste management procedures and policies.
  • Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

Qualifications & Experience

Following is the eligibility criteria for the role of Specialist Neonatology at NMC Food Lands Building:

  • Completion of a recognized higher professional education program.
  • Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency.
  • Certification of higher professional education recognized by DOH.
  • Must have minimum three years of experience since gaining the higher qualification or as per DOH requirements.
  • Must possess DOH License to practice along with Current licensure in country of origin as Neonatologist/Specialist Neonatologist.

  • Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work.
  • Must possess personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
  • Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
