Responsibilities of A Lead Instrumentation Engineer
- Lead a team of instrumentation engineers and technicians in the design, specification, installation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation systems for Oil & Gas projects.
- Develop and review instrumentation engineering designs, specifications, and drawings, ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards (e.g., API, ANSI, ISA), and safety regulations.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the instrumentation engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, process engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation systems with overall project requirements.
- Conduct technical reviews, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for instrumentation systems and components.
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and other safety reviews related to instrumentation systems, ensuring design solutions mitigate potential risks effectively.
- Perform site visits, inspections, and audits to verify adherence to design specifications, safety standards, and project milestones.
- Prepare and review technical documentation including datasheets, procurement specifications, FAT/SAT procedures, and operation manuals.
- Support procurement activities by reviewing vendor documentation, participating in technical evaluations, and ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes relevant to instrumentation engineering.
Eligibility Requirements
The eligibility requirements for role of a Lead Instrumentation Engineer are as under:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Instrumentation Engineering. Masters degree preferred.
- Proven track record of 5+ years as a Lead Instrumentation Engineer within the Oil & Gas industry, with extensive experience in engineering consultancy and project management.
Knowledge & Skills Desired
- Thorough understanding of instrumentation design principles, process control systems, and automation technologies.
- Proficiency in using engineering software tools such as AutoCAD, SPI, SmartPlant Instrumentation, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of international standards and codes (e.g., IEC, NEC, NEMA) applicable to instrumentation engineering.
- Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Effective communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
