Job Description
The College of Pharmacy University of Sharjah is presently hiring a qualified and experienced candidate for the role of Assistant Professor Chemistry/Biochemistry. The selected candidate will design & deliver courses and give lectures in Biochemistry/ Chemistry/Bioanalytical courses to undergraduate & graduate students. Evaluate & grade student performance, provide feedback and support their academic progress. Conduct independent research in drug design & discovery field and publish scholarly articles, reviews or book chapters. Obtain research funding and collaborate with other researchers to advance the field. Role holder will also Develop and revise course materials, learning objectives, and assessments for Medicinal Chemistry department courses, ensure that they align with accreditation standards and reflect current practices.
Duties of Assistant Professor Chemistry/Biochemistry
- Teaching: Teach courses related to Biochemistry/Bioanalytical and Pharmacy related courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
- This includes preparing and delivering lectures, supervise student, conducting and assessing student learning through examinations and other assignments.
- Research: Engage in scholarly research activities, including securing funding, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
- They may also be expected to supervise graduate students’ research projects.
- Curriculum development: Developing and updating the curriculum, including selecting appropriate textbooks and other resources and incorporating current research and developments in the field.
- Advising: Provide academic advising to students, including guidance on course selection, career paths, and research opportunities.
- Professional development: Keep up-to-date with the latest research, trends, and technologies related to the field.
- They may attend conferences, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues within the institution, as well as external partners, to advance research, teaching, and service activities.
- Service: Participate in service activities that contribute to the institution, the profession, and the community.
- This may include serving on committees, mentoring students, providing community outreach, and participating in professional organizations.
Job Requirements
The requirements for role of Assistant Professor Chemistry/Biochemistry are as under:
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or PharmD is a must.
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry Chemistry is a MUST, demonstrating a higher specialization level and research expertise.
- At least three years post-Ph.D. teaching experience in the field at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and junior faculty members.
- Experience with online learning platforms and technologies.
Skills & Knowledge Desired
- A strong record of independent research, including publications in high quality peer reviewed journals and successful grant funding. This record should be supported by a high H index and citations record.
- Good communication skills (speaking and writing).
- Multicultural Western exposure is a PLUS.
- Provide assistance in design of proteomics / metabolomics experiments, including guidance on strategy (study design; sample prep; discovery vs targeted; appropriate selection of instrumentation and data analysis.
- Understand the training and education needs of the national multi omics community; align and drive appropriate workshops, master classes, seminars and courses.
- Keeping up to date with mass spectrometry and other OMICS related fields.
- Coordinating the activities of mass spectrometry core facility staff, members, and OMICS stakeholders, as applicable, such as through workshops, working group meetings, and conferences.
- Liaising with mass spectrometry internal users and external researchers to mediate exchange of knowledge and instrumentation accessibility.
- Preparing working group meeting minutes and reports; Ensuring timeous circulation of working group related information.
- Supporting the RHIMHS administration in defining working group requirements, scope and objectives; MS core services and priorities.
- Support researchers in preparing mass spectrometry based multiomics proposals, timeframes, schedules, and budgets.
- Acting as the point of contact and communicating working group status adequately to all relevant parties.
