Job Description

Job Purpose of A Dietician

  • Provide nutritional services to patients. Assess patients’s nutritional needs, develop and implement nutrition programs, and evaluate and communicate the results. Confer with doctors and other health care professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs.
  • Plan and conduct food service or nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease.

Job Duties of A Dietician

  • Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plan to develop and implement dietary care plans and provide nutritional counseling to inpatient and outpatient.
  • Consult with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patient or client.
  • Performs initial assessment and reassessment of patients in the department.
  • Advise patients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans and diet modifications, and food selection and preparation.
  • Counsel individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life.
  • Monitor food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards.
  • Inspect meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance.
  • Responsible for the smooth work flow of the Department.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient’s record.
  • Participating in annual performance appraisal programs.
  • Handles difficult situations in a confident and caring manner.
  • Participates in Quality improvement projects and KPI’s.
  • Maintains high levels of cleanliness and tidiness within the department.
  • Should also follow the Department Policies related to Infection Control.
  • Provide daily supervision and support to the inpatient and outpatient services with regard to food service / nutritional programs.
  • Recruit, interview, select employees and provide effective recommendation for hiring; evaluates competency and performance of personnel, recommend disciplinary actions and promotions.
  • Responsible for formulation, implementation & oversees the policies and procedures as per the standards of HAAD, EHSMS, JCI, ISO and Regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with the hospital policies and procedures as per the standards of HAAD, EHSMS, JCI, ISO and other Regulatory bodies.
  • Develops, supports and participates in active Continuing Medical Education program for the staff which may include workshops, conferences, lectures and other educational activities.

Qualification & Experience

  • Required: B.Sc degree in Nutrition & Dietetics from an accredited program.
  • Preferred: M.Sc in relevant clinical field (will reduce 1 year from the required years of experience).
  • Must possess at least 2 years of experience as clinical dietitian in an acute care facility.
  • Must possess Current National license.
  • Active member of a nutrition society or Association.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
  • Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patient’s preferences.
  • Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of confidentiality policy.
