Job Description

The Operations Project Management unit at the American university of Sharjah is looking for an Electrical Engineer to serve AUS projects which is under planning stage and construction stage. Prospective candidate should be well experienced and responsible for Electrical systems work related to design, Construction & maintenance including fault finding for Building Services, Substations, HV, LV distribution, Emergency Power Systems & Generators, ELV systems such as Structured Cabling & Networking, SMATV, Car Park Management Systems & Gate barriers, Fire Alarm Systems, Access Control Systems, Security CCTV Surveillance Systems, Building Automation, Integration, Lighting Controls , IT related systems from Feasibility stage till handover including Defect Liability Period of the Project, warranty, Training & Operations.

Responsibilities of Electrical Engineer

  • Carrying out the project feasibility studies and providing preliminary project requirement.
  • Reviewing consultant design documentation such as drawings, calculations, specifications and other technical reports and provide design/construction input into all stages from feasibility study to end of defect liability period.
  • Prepare specification & cost estimates for electrical materials and labor for in house projects.
  • The Electrical Engineer also provides technical support to project teams and supervises contractors and subcontractors.
  • Developing design specifications for equipment and material selections, equipment configurations, plant layouts, and formulating instrumentation diagrams in coordination with design consultant.
  • Coordinating with multi discipline teams of engineers and designers to produce engineering works and liaising with AUS departments and contractors including Participation to “kick off” meetings, “design reviews” etc.,
  • Oversee the work of contractors to ensure work is performed safely, in adherence with best engineering practices, and as specified in the contracts and specifications.
  • Site attendance and sign off on plant installation, Testing and commissioning inspections including variations.
  • Inspect electrical systems and equipment for compliance and safety.
  • Ensure the projects progress is in line with the work program and if any delay in order to hand over the project on time.
  • Snags and Defect inspections and reporting prior to project handovers, and during defect liability periods.
  • Investigate equipment failures, fault diagnosing and making recommendations for remedial works.
  • Oversee the work of contractors to ensure work is performed safely, in adherence with best engineering practices as specified in the contracts and specifications including specified budget.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of project aims and objectives as outlined in the relevant specification including time.
  • Preparation of “material requisition (M.R.) and work requisition (W.R.) for bid inquiry. technical bid evaluation and tabulation of bidders.
  • Preparation of responses to Technical Queries, Technical Deviation Requests, etc.. including Review of Material Approval Requests from Vendor’s/Subcontractors.

Job Requirements of Electrical Engineer

  • The candidate must be a degree holder in Electrical Engineering from a reputed university.
  • The candidate must hold a valid U.A.E driving license.
  • The candidate should have experience of minimum 15 years working.
  • An experience in energy management subject/ techniques for new buildings as well as existing facilities.
  • Experience & exposure in mechanical systems, testing and commissioning.
  • Project cost estimation experiences.
  • Electrical work design experience
  • UAE national are preferred.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • The candidate must be able to work under pressure and be able to handle critical situation.
  • The candidate should have an excellent interpersonal communication skill including writing.
  • The Candidate should have knowledge about standard electrical system including local regulations as well as international practices.
  • The candidate must be a computer literate including MS project and familiarized in AutoCAD system.
  • The candidate should well acquainted with electrical system and latest building technology for Electrical work.
  • The candidate should have exposure to large scale Projects for minimum of 08 years or more.
  • The candidate should have a direct exposure to the site/construction works including project commissioning/handover.
  • The candidates should be able to work independently under minimal guidance of immediate supervisor.
  • The candidate should be excellent in producing reports and presenting project/energy related documents.
  • Candidate should be familiar with local Electrical Authority codes & requirements.
