The Tug Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of tug boat engines and mechanical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and continuous marine operations across NMDC’s fleet.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and repair main and auxiliary engines, pumps, and mechanical systems on tugs and support craft.
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance and respond to breakdowns to minimise vessel downtime.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and perform overhauls of diesel engines, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.
- Monitor engine performance, fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and class requirements during all maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with the engineering team and report defects, spare parts, and maintenance requirements.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned in line with operational requirements.
Qualifications
- Technical diploma or trade certificate in Mechanical/Marine Engineering or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a marine/tug mechanic, preferably in dredging or offshore operations.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and marine mechanical systems.
- Ability to work offshore and in multicultural team environments.
