This role plans, organises, and manages daily maintenance and repair of customers’ vehicles, therefore ensuring high workmanship quality that meets manufacturer standards and customer satisfaction. You will allocate jobs based on job cards, control work‑in‑progress on the shop floor, and monitor technician clocking to achieve maximum labour utilisation and on‑time delivery. Consequently, your technical guidance, parts coordination, and performance evaluation directly enhance team efficiency, repair quality, and a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Allocate jobs based on job cards received to the team, therefore achieving maximum labour utilisation and balanced workflow.
- Control and monitor work in progress on the shop floor to ensure staff efficiency and productivity, completing jobs within committed delivery time. Ensure technicians clock in and out correctly in the system.
- Ensure repair order write‑ups by technicians comply with manufacturer’s audit requirements.
- Upgrade technical knowledge through web‑based courses and classroom training, therefore staying current with vehicle systems and repair methods.
- Follow up on each repair, advising technicians about schedule time and completion date to ensure team effort for on‑time vehicle delivery.
- Prepare repair requests for additional work, ensure repair orders are correctly transcribed, and allocate specialist technicians for excellent workmanship. Provide guidance on repair methods, parts supply, and monitor delays.
- Arrange parts when vehicles are delayed due to Parts Not Available (PNA). Discuss with parts department and supervisor, including recommending cannibalisation from new vehicles depending on urgency. Promptly communicate delays to Service Advisor or Controller.
- Road test vehicles for proper repair when peculiar problems are noticed, ensuring quality meets required standards.
- Monitor tools, workshop equipment, and shop consumables for his team, therefore ensuring availability and serviceability for prompt vehicle servicing.
- Ensure company health and safety policies are followed, tools and equipment are in good order, and housekeeping standards maintain a safe, healthy working environment.
- Evaluate and monitor subordinate performance against set standards, identify necessary training, and follow up with Workshop Manager for delivery.
- Give clear instructions to costing clerk regarding jobs carried out and any deviations, including amounts to be charged to customers.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanical or Automobile Engineering or technology.
- 5–8 years of experience in the automotive service field, with 3–5 years in a team leader, section head, or supervisor role.
- Strong technical knowledge of vehicle repair methods, diagnostics, and manufacturer standards.
- Proven ability to allocate work, monitor productivity, and manage workshop workflow.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with technicians, parts department, service advisors, and costing clerks.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and housekeeping standards in a workshop environment.
- Proficiency in workshop management systems and basic computer skills.
- Valid UAE driving license is preferred.
