Staff Nurse – Dialysis Dubai, United Arab Emirates Full-time

Nephrology nursing at a JCI-accredited private hospital requires Staff Nurse a level of procedural precision that separates it from general ward nursing almost immediately. This role at American Hospital Dubai places you at the centre of a specialist dialysis unit where you initiate and manage hemodialysis sessions, insert vascular access needles into AVFs and AVGs, monitor fluid balance in real time, and respond to anaphylaxis and hypersensitivity reactions as they occur. Every shift combines technical procedure, continuous critical assessment, and patient-centred care for a population managing a chronic, life-sustaining treatment. Key Responsibilities

• Initiate and perform hemodialysis sessions for assigned patients. Follow American Hospital Dubai protocols and guidelines at every stage of treatment setup, monitoring, and completion.
• Insert vascular access needles into arteriovenous fistulas and arteriovenous grafts. Apply correct technique consistently to facilitate safe and effective dialysis access.
• Monitor vital signs and fluid balance throughout each hemodialysis session. Identify and respond to changes in patient condition promptly and accurately.
• Conduct Hemocue blood tests to measure haemoglobin levels and analyse urine samples for abnormalities or indicators of underlying health conditions.
• Recognise and respond immediately to anaphylaxis and hypersensitivity reactions. Administer appropriate medications and interventions in line with hospital protocols.
• Maintain hemodialysis catheters correctly to prevent infection and complications. Clean and disinfect hemodialysis machines and equipment following unit-specific sterilisation protocols.
• Perform continuous critical care assessment of patients and families across physical and psychological dimensions. Revise individual care plans as clinical needs change.
• Document all patient data accurately and completely in the medical record. Meet hospital and departmental documentation standards on every shift.
• Administer and document narcotic, controlled, and semi-controlled drugs safely. Follow all policy and procedure requirements without exception.
• Participate in unit-based CQI activities including incident reporting, medication error reporting, data collection, and quality improvement team involvement.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum three-year full-time program), or a two-year Nursing degree with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
• Minimum two years of recent post-graduate experience in nephrology nursing or a dedicated dialysis unit.
• Valid licence or registration to practise in home country and/or country of last employment.
• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, current at time of appointment.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is essential.
• Demonstrated competency in hemodialysis session management, AVF and AVG needle insertion, and catheter care.
• Strong skills in patient and family assessment covering both physical and psychological needs across the nephrology care continuum.
• Knowledge of JCI requirements including International Patient Safety Goals and mandatory education compliance areas.
• Ability to coordinate, prioritise, and revise care plans for patients managing chronic kidney disease and related complications.
