The Arbor School needs a skilled Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator to lead inclusive education in the Primary School. This is a middle leadership role. The school would like someone to join in Term 3. However, an August 2026 start may work for an exceptional candidate. Do you believe every child can flourish? Then this position offers a great platform. You will lead a team of inclusion teachers and support staff. You will also coordinate daily SEND operations. In addition, you will develop curriculum pathways and targeted interventions. These will help students with autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and physical disabilities. You will work under the Head of Inclusion. Consequently, you will champion belonging and achievement for all learners.
Key Responsibilities for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator In Primary School
- Safeguard and promote student welfare. Follow the school’s safeguarding framework and code of conduct. Positively promote the Arbor vision, mission, and values.
- Lead the SEND department. You will report to the Head of Inclusion. Coordinate daily operations. These include referrals, assessments, and provision mapping.
- Develop curriculum pathways and targeted interventions. Support a diverse range of learners. For example, students with autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and physical disabilities need different approaches.
- Collaborate with class teachers and specialists. Also work with year group leaders and department heads. Help them embed inclusive practices across the school.
- Communicate strongly with parents. Give them regular updates and support. Deliver professional learning to staff. Teach them about research informed inclusive practice.
- Engage in action research. Focus on sustainable, skills based development. Keep the learning environment safe and stimulating. Finally, celebrate success with high standard displays.
Qualifications
You need native level English language skills. A bachelor degree in Special Needs Education or Inclusion is essential. A PGCE with QTS or equivalent is also required. Additional qualifications help. For instance, the National Award for SEN Coordination is highly desired. You need three years of experience in SEN or inclusion roles. That experience should come from the UK or a reputable British school. You must have a track record of outstanding teaching. Also show you can create a caring, nurturing classroom environment.
