You will negotiate service contract freight rates and terms with airlines and shipping lines, respond to spot shipment rate requests, and manage rate sheets and pricing databases. Consequently, your ability to secure the best costs and develop carrier relationships directly impacts market share, profitability, and the company’s competitive position – all while serving US‑based clients on US working hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide customers with estimates and standard prices that keep our services competitive, therefore presenting solutions that demonstrate business value and goal alignment.
- Understand and analyze competitor pricing matched with market expectations to determine ideal target prices for all freight products.
- Identify and develop effective relationships with airlines, shipping lines, and transportation suppliers to secure the best prices, therefore maintaining competing rates for all freight products.
- Keep pricing records for customers up to date, managing rate sheets and pricing databases. Ensure privacy and confidentiality of pricing data in line with data security policies.
- Set up KPIs and share them with the direct manager. Report any information that might impact company image, brand, or functioning.
- Facilitate the flow of information horizontally and vertically across multiple departments, therefore ensuring price standards keep our services competitive.
- Procure the best cost through selling negotiations, work with pricing tools or spreadsheets, and run or participate in cost‑related meetings with airlines, shipping lines, and suppliers.
- Negotiate service contract freight rates, terms, and conditions. Respond to spot shipment rate requests and implement tariffs.
- Prepare regular reports on inquiry status (weekly or monthly) showing wins and losses. Support product development and growth acceleration with day‑to‑day ad hoc freight inquiries.
- Develop and build solid relationships with carriers, agents, and counterparts at all levels, seeking the best fit to secure necessary rates and space agreements.
- Follow up with airlines and shipping lines for spot rate reductions on specific trade lanes due to capacity issues. Prepare transportation cost analysis reports based on international carrier rates and operating costs.
- Engage in research to expand personal and company knowledge of industry trends, best practices, marketing, and sales. This role serves US‑based clients, therefore working hours are based on US timing.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or any other field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in freight forwarding and logistics industries.
- Excellent MS Office skills: Word, Excel (advanced), and PowerPoint.
- Strong command of English (written and spoken).
- Strong ability to multi‑task and prioritise in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and drive success with minimum supervision.
- Strong business acumen and industry knowledge of freight pricing, carrier negotiations, and market trends.
- Proven negotiation skills, financial analysis, and decision‑making capabilities.
- Adaptability, resilience, and problem‑solving mindset to handle spot rate requests and capacity issues.
- Willingness to work US hours (evening/night shifts in UAE) to support US‑based clients.
