Key Responsibilities

• Fill prescriptions accurately and dispense medications in line with hospital policy and DHA regulations. Make decisions on generic substitution where clinically appropriate and permitted by prescription.
• Counsel patients and medical practitioners on drug indications, contraindications, dosage, potential drug interactions, and side effects. Provide clear, accurate pharmaceutical information in every consultation.
• Recommend over-the-counter medications after talking with patients and assessing their symptoms and needs. Apply clinical judgment to OTC recommendations consistently.
• Take patient medication histories when required. Make initial clinical assessments and refer patients to appropriate clinicians where necessary.
• Supervise and train assistant pharmacists during daily operations. Monitor their performance, provide guidance, and ensure they work within approved scope and hospital standards.
• Maintain accurate, confidential computerised records of all patient drug therapies. Flag potential harmful drug interactions and communicate concerns to prescribing clinicians promptly.
• Complete third-party insurance forms and other required paperwork accurately. Follow insurance company policies and procedures to ensure smooth claims processing and patient billing.
• Monitor stock for nearing expiry or expired items. Dispose of expired medications according to hospital policy and DHA regulations without exception.
• Establish and maintain pharmaceutical storage systems and recordkeeping methods that ensure drug safety, security, and compliance with DHA standards.
• Report any violations of department policies and procedures to the Chief Pharmacist immediately. Follow all established departmental policies, continuous quality improvement objectives, and infection control standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution — this is a mandatory requirement.
• Valid DHA licence to practise as a Pharmacist in Dubai — current and in good standing at time of appointment.
• Sound knowledge of DHA regulations and their practical application across hospital pharmacy operations.
• Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge covering drug indications, contraindications, interactions, dosing, and side effect profiles across a broad therapeutic range.
• Experience with third-party insurance processing, claims submission, and compliance with insurance company policies in a hospital setting.
• Excellent communication and counselling skills. You explain complex pharmaceutical information clearly to patients, families, and medical practitioners.
