Paediatric Emergency Medicine Consultant – Abu Dhabi Full-time

This role leads resuscitation and acute care for critically ill or injured children—from febrile neonates and status epilepticus to major trauma and anaphylaxis—within a state-of-the-art specialty hospital co-managed with a major US medical institution in Al Ain. You will make high-stakes decisions on airway management, fluid resuscitation, and vasoactive support while coordinating with paediatric intensive care and surgical teams. The position operates within a US-collaborative emergency model, where your clinical judgments directly reduce paediatric morbidity and mortality in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead paediatric resuscitation teams during cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, shock, and traumatic injury using PALS and APLS protocols.
• Perform emergency procedures including endotracheal intubation, needle decompression, intraosseous access, and chest tube placement in children.
• Manage acute medical emergencies such as diabetic ketoacidosis, severe asthma, meningococcaemia, and seizures with age-appropriate interventions.
• Conduct rapid assessment and triage of paediatric patients presenting to the emergency department, prioritizing by acuity and resource availability.
• Coordinate transfer and handover to paediatric intensive care, paediatric surgery, or neurosurgery for patients requiring admission or operative intervention.
• Provide sedation and analgesia for painful procedures including fracture reduction, laceration repair, and lumbar puncture in children.
• Educate families on post-emergency care, red flags, and when to return, using teach-back methods to confirm understanding.
• Supervise emergency medicine residents, junior staff, and medical students rotating through the paediatric emergency unit.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Specialty qualification in Emergency Medicine from a Tier 1 country recognized by UAE licensing authority (e.g., CCT, CCST, American Board, FRACP, RCPSC, DES, Fachärztliche Anerkennung/Urkunde).
• Formal subspecialty training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (fellowship or equivalent).
• Minimum 2 years post-specialty experience in a hospital setting within Western Europe, North America, or Australasia.
• Current PALS (Paediatric Advanced Life Support) and APLS (Advanced Paediatric Life Support) certification.
• Demonstrated competence in paediatric airway management, vascular access, and resuscitation leadership.
• Valid consultant-level license or eligibility for UAE licensure from a Tier 1 country.
• Fluency in English required; Arabic language skills strongly preferred for family communication.
