Optometrist Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi

A Senior Optometrist at Moorfields Eye Hospital Center (Mubadala Health) provides a full range of optometric services and work unsupervised. The role works independently, but as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing service to the medical and clinical team. The post holder will be asked to work outside of the normal remit of a hospital optometrist in that he/ she might be asked to undertake some diagnostic tests that at other times and places would be undertaken by other staff.

Duties as Senior Optometrist

  • To provide a wide range of optometric services.
  • Diagnostic and Post-Operative refraction cases.
  • Slit-lamp examination, keratometry, contact lens fitting and aftercare.
  • To help out with the use of various diagnostic equipment including Corneal topography and pachmetry and Visual field assessment and Fluorescein Angiography.
  • Routine dispensing cases.
  • To conduct some clinical photographic work (training will be provided if required).
  • To participate in Research Studies that might be ongoing at the Hospital.
  • To refract patients at the request of doctors, to present the results of test, and to work as part of the team providing care to the patient. This is not a stand alone Optometry service, where patients would come in simply to have a regular check and to have a new special prescription prepared.
  • To keep up to date with relevant legislation / standards / best practice.
  • To keep up to date professionally, cascade new information to others within the hospital that might benefit

Qualifications & Experience

Following is the eligibility criteria for the role of Senior Optometrist at Mubadala Health:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Optometry, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Worked as an optometrist for more than 5 years in specialized eye center/hospital.
  • Current national professional registration is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in relevant setting Examine eyes using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, ocular motility and coordination and to detect signs of eye diseases and other abnormalities.
  • Specialty in pediatrics, contact lenses or visual rehabilitation.

Job Skills

  • Strong critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in English.
  • Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferable.
  • Communicate with patients to obtain detailed case histories.
