Purpose of An Operational Safety Specialist At Etihad Rail

• Maintain & comply with operational safety standards & international safety practices in railway operations.
• Effectively manage safety related activities & systems so that operational safety risk is as low as reasonably practicable.
• Mentor line managers and supervisors to promote an organisational safety culture that puts safety at foundation of everything company’s does.

Duties of An Operational Safety Specialist At Etihad Rail

• Develop and maintain the operational safety element of the safety management system and ensure it is fully implemented to meet the continued needs of the business.
• Support production of and compliance with the operations safety case and safety permit.
• Perform periodic reviews for local and international developments in railway safety regulations, standards and technological specifications.
• Advise the organisation and update the operational safety management system as per new standards.
• Support the implementation of operational safety leading Key Performance Indicators.
• Provide technical guidance and support to line managers & supervisors in production and implementation of risk assessments, processes and safe systems of work to ensure that risks are controlled as low as reasonably practicable.
• Support CSMREA Workshops in preparation of safety certificate for submission to ISA for the approval of the regulator.
• Carry out site inspections to check safety mechanisms as per set guidelines both during and after office hours (announced and unannounced).
• Investigate incidents (if any) with the purpose to identify the root cause and recommed remedial measures to avoid reoccurrence in future.
• Deliver operational safety briefings, alerts, and advisories as and when required.
• Compile periodic operational safety performance reports.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of the annual HSEQ plan.
• Undertake continuing professional development (CDP) to ensure knowledge remains current and relevant.
• Any other duties as assigned by higher authorities.

Qualification?

• NEBOSH general certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
• ISO 45001 or ISO 9001 Internal Auditor certifications (desirable).
• Risk management qualification (desirable).
• Assessor qualification (desirable).

Experience?

• At least 8 years experience in passenger railway operations.
• Experience of operational railway safety or incident investigation.
• Experience in delivering safety objectives within a complex rail organisation.
• Tram & high speed mass transit experience (desirable).
• Experience in SODT & trial operations during rolling stock testing and commissioning phases (desirable).
• Experience in passenger service train (desirable).

Skills & Knowledge Desired

• Knowledge of railway safety regulations, standards and technical specifications
• Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to speak publicly.
• Excellent English language skill both written and verbal. Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.
• Adaptability and resilience to work in a harsh environment.
