About the NEW BUILD ENGINEER role
Working as a NEW BUILD ENGINEER in Abu Dhabi places you at the heart of the UAE marine construction and dredging sector. Responsible for monitoring and supervising all hull fabrication, steel construction, and welding activities during the construction of new vessels. Ensure shipyard works comply with approved drawings, class rules, project specifications, quality standards, and construction schedules.
Responsibilities
- Supervise hull fabrication, steel assembly, fit-up, and welding activities during vessel construction.
- Verify compliance with approved drawings, welding procedures (WPS), and quality requirements.
- Monitor weld quality, dimensional accuracy, and structural alignment throughout construction.
- Coordinate with the shipyard, classification society, designers, and owner’s representatives to resolve fabrication and welding issues.
- Review welding documentation, welder qualifications, NDT reports, and inspection records.
- Witness inspections, testing, and acceptance of fabricated structures.
- Identify construction deviations and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Monitor construction progress and provide regular technical and progress reports.
- Ensure compliance with applicable HSE requirements and international shipbuilding standards.
- Support successful completion of sea trials and vessel delivery by ensuring all fabrication-related punch items are closed.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/Naval Architect Engineering
Preferred certifications/training in Welding Quality Control or Inspection such as CSWIP 3.1/3.2, AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), BGAS-CSWIP, or equivalent.
10 years’ experience in Ship building industry.
