Job Description

The role of the Inclusion Assistant is to contribute to the effective delivery of teaching and learning to allow pupils with specific or general learning difficulties to reach their potential within the school under the direction of the class teacher and Inclusion Teacher, enabling them to make progress, as well as working as part of the Inclusion Team.

Responsibilities of Inclusion Assistant

  • To support and encourage pupils to engage with school work and activities to help them achieve under the guidance of the Heads of Inclusion departments.
  • To become aware of best practice in the classroom and to share good practice throughout the department.
  • Liaise with subject/class teachers, ensuring supported pupils are able to participate appropriately, for example by adapting work.
  • Provide in-class support and lead small-group withdrawal sessions as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate basic ICT skills eg using word, sending emails.
  • Take part in meetings, assemblies, visits, duties, events as required.

Job Requirements of Inclusion Assistant

  • Candidates should have GCSEs, Secondary School Leavers certificate or equivalent including a Maths qualification and be under spouse’s sponsorship.
  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Mathematics and English
  • Training, experience or clear interest in the following would be advantageous.

Special Educational Needs

  • Monitoring the progress of individuals.
  • Mentoring.
  • Providing support for individuals with any of the following: specific and general learning difficulties, physical/mental impairment, language and communication difficulties, and/or emotional and social difficulties.
