Job Description
AECOM presently has a job opening for suitably qualified and experienced candidate for position of a Associate Director FLS in Dubai.
Job Description
General
- Serves as lead engineer on mid- to large size projects.
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise.
- Approves and signs off on work.
- Provides technical expertise for studies and design efforts.
- Presents complex technical solutions to clients.
- Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others.
- Participates in development of technical proposals.
- Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements on large projects.
Specific
- Responsibilities
- The responsibilities of the Associate Director Fire Engineer include the following:
- Manage infrastructure, building projects and rail transportation projects (with respect to fire life safety) from concept design through to completion and handover.
- Develop performance-based fire engineering strategies.
- Support HAZID and HAZOP workshops with respect to fire life safety.
- Carry our risk assessments with respect to fire safety, fire egress points and travel distances and work collaboratively to mitigate such risks.
- The application of codes and standards to FLS and loss prevention
- Good working knowledge of CFD smoke modelling particularly in station buildings and tunnels
Qualifications
- Experience
- Ideally, the candidate would have 10-15 years’ experience in a senior fire engineering role covering buildings, tunnels, and infrastructure projects.
- Experience in a railway environment covering viaducts, tunnels, stations and depots would be a distinct advantage.
- Proven track record in Fire Protection Systems strategy and design.
- Knowledge and understanding of Tunnel Ventilation Systems, smoke modelling, and fire evacuation strategies for multiple train-fire scenarios would also be highly regarded.
- Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering (or equivalent).
- Membership of recognised professional body such as MIET (UK) or equivalent
- Chartered Fire Engineer with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or equivalent.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) from NFPA would be a distinct advantage.
- Must have a strong working knowledge of various fire standards and codes including:
- NFPA 130
- UAE Fire Life Safety Code of Practice
- Saudi Building Code for Fire Protection – SBC 801.
- BS9992 – Fire safety in the design, management, and use of rail infrastructure.
