Job Description
Khalifa University is seeking an experienced & highly motivated Post Doctoral Fellow to work on a funded project aiming to develop an Innovative system for the control of dynamic response of bridges; specifically the Post doc is expected to work on the development of a “smart” device of the semi active type, namely moveable shear keys (MSKs) for optimizing the dynamic performance of a bridge. Various algorithms will be tested to achieve effective regulation, e.g. based on classical, optimal, adaptive or model predictive control. The developed algorithm will be implemented in an appropriate software (e.g. MATLAB) and will be used jointly with a nonlinear dynamic finite element analysis program to optimize the seismic response of typical bridges subjected to ground motions.
Responsibilities of Post Doctoral Fellow
- Develop a semi active control algorithm that will adjust the width of deck joints in bridges subjected to seismic ground motion, with a view to optimizing the dynamic response of the bridge.
- Apply the aforementioned software for optimizing the design of joints in a number of bridges.
- Work independently and in collaboration with senior scientists and graduate students locally and internationally.
- Adhere to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
